Our bird welfare section is for groups and individuals concerned about the welfare of birds in their community and around the world.
The suggested requirements are designed to make the program fun, educational and rewarding. Following along with the requirements will prepare the participant to complete the final service project.
All level requirements are flexible. You decide what works best for your group.
Bird Helper Patch Program®
At the “Helping Hands” level children will learn how they can help birds in their area.
Requirement 1: Make It!
Do an art or craft activity to get excited about doing a bird service project.
Requirement 2: Learn It!
Watch the video to find out about birds.
Requirement 3: Do It!
Choose and complete one of the suggested age-appropriate service projects for birds.
Requirement 4: Earn it!
Receive the Bird Helper Patch.

Feeding the Birds Patch Program®
At the “Friend” level children will learn how to provide nourishment for local birds.
Requirement 1: Learn It!
Learn about state birds and use the provided info sheet to identify the bird for your state.
Requirement 2: See It!
Go out bird watching to learn about the birds near you and learn how to identify different bird species.
Requirement 3: Do It!
Choose and complete one of the suggested bird feeding projects.
Requirement 4: Review It!
Review your project. Optional review worksheet is provided for younger achievers.

Bird Sanctuary Volunteer Patch Program®
At the “Volunteer” level you will learn how to plan for volunteering at a local bird sanctuary.
Optional word search download is provided for pre-meeting.
Requirement 1: Research It!
Use the downloadable worksheet to help you research local bird sanctuaries and decide at which one you want to volunteer.
Requirement 2: See It!
Visit a local bird sanctuary and find out if they are a good fit for your volunteering project.
Requirement 3: Do It!
Make a commitment to volunteer at your local bird sanctuary and consider choosing a DIY project to make for them.

Bird Advocate Patch Program®
At the “Advocate” level you will learn to effectively advocate for the welfare of birds.
Requirement 1: Research It!
Use the provided links to learn about the challenges facing birds and what we can do to help them.
Requirement 2: Do It!
Plan and complete one of the suggested advocacy programs to help birds.
Requirement 3: Review It!
Review your experience advocating for birds and thank those who helped.

Bird Delegate Pin Program
At the “Delegate” Level you will learn to organize and lead a bird welfare service project.
Requirement 1: Choose It!
Use the provided links to choose a topic for your bird welfare action project.
Requirement 2: Plan It!
Learn how to plan and organize your action project including fundraising and outreach.
Requirement 3: Do It!
Join in during your project to supervise and provide assistance at all levels. Don’t forget to thank the volunteers, organizations and mentors that helped you complete your project!
