Use it as an optional requirement for young children to do before the meeting begins.
—————————————-
Requirement 1: Learn It!
Many people in the United States don’t have enough money for for their basic needs including clothes. That includes 20 million children.
When families are struggling to buy food and keep warm, things like buying clothes are not as important.
—————————————-
Requirement 2: See It!
Visit a Salvation Army thrift shop or another store that sells inexpensive used clothing. You can also visit places that give away used clothing such as a school or place of worship. Helpful Link: Find your closest Salvation Army Family Store.
Print out the donation list to review with a volunteer to find out what items you should be collecting.
Things to ask about:
- What are some items you especially need?
- What condition should the clothes be in?
- Is there a need for shoes?
—————————————-
Requirement 3: Do It!
Think about the used clothing store you visited.
Participate in a clothing drive project. Here are some ideas:
- Participate in a used clothing drive.
- Collect clothes from your home that you no longer wear to donate.
- Help sort used clothes.
—————————————-
Requirement 4: Review It!
Download the optional review sheet for younger achievers.
Discussion Points:
- Do you consider your clothing drive a success?
- Would you do it again?
- What would you do different next time?
Why do you think people need better food options?
- Do they know the right kinds of food to eat?
- Do they have enough money to buy healthy food?
Congratulations! You have earned the Clothing Drive patch. It can be purchased at our partner site MakingFriends®.com.
